Ipoh is Malaysia third largest city and a gateway to the Cameron Highlands, it’s also often referred to as the town built on tin. A boom in the mid 1900’s turned Ipoh from a sleepy backwater to a hotbed of commercialism, with a frenetic atmosphere and bustling nightlife. Then the price of tin collapsed in the 1980’s and a steadier pace resumed.

Now Ipoh is a perfect stop for travellers venturing from Kuala Lumpur to Penang. It’s also a gateway to the Cameron Highlands, a hill station and tea plantation. Architecturally, Ipoh is characterized by colonial era Chinese shop houses and several British Colonial buildings including the rail station, townhall and courthouse. Ipoh is also a renowned foodie destination, giving Penang a run for its money.
