Looking for some picturesque new golf courses to play? This is the trip for you as many of the courses on offer will provide you with spectacular mountain backdrops with open fairways to master. You start from Auckland and drive south to take in the geothermal town of Rotorua then onward to Lake Taupo to pick up your first round of golf at The Kinloch Club on the North Island. After taking the inter-island ferry you will move down the west coast of the south island and eventually reach Queenstown on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Here you will play Jacks Point & Millbrook Resort, both on the edge of the Remarkables Mountain Range.

Day 1 - Auckland

Arrive at Auckland airport

On arrival please make your way to the Budget Rental Car counter located within the arrivals hall to collect your Budget car and make your way to your accommodation.

Day 2 - Auckland

Day at leisure in Auckland

Today is at your leisure in Auckland City, also known as the ‘City of Sails’. You may wish to explore the city centre or join one of the many excursions out to one of the islands of the Hauraki Gulf including the dormant volcano of Rangitoto Island or the vineyards of Waiheke Island. There are regular departures from the ferry terminal situated at the bottom of town.

Day 3 - Auckland - Rotorua

Located on a volcanic plateau, and formerly a spa town, Rotorua is most famous for its geothermal activity. Rotorua is the main place in New Zealand where aspects of Maori traditions can be seen, from wood carvings, and meeting houses, to a Hangi Dinner and Maori dances. Native and introduced tree species abound locally and combined with several picturesque lakes, Rotorua is a fascinating mix of culture and nature.

Day 4 - Rotorua - Taupo

Located on the edge of Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake Taupo is a pretty town renowned for its trout fishing, the Huka Falls, and the Wairakei Geothermal Power Station. On a clear day, stunning views across the lake of snow capped Mounts Tongariro, Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe can be enjoyed.

Day 5 - Golf - The Kinloch Club Taupo

Today you are playing at The Kinloch Club

Designed by 18 time Major winner Jack Nicklaus, The Kinloch Club offers unique design features, with every hole requiring strategic thought and patience. The course is a fantastic test for all golfing abilities, and has been recognised worldwide with numerous accolades including a Top 100 in the World ranking from Golf Course Architecture Magazine. In discovering Kinloch, the overall experience will pleasantly surprise golfers for the unique challenge that the course presents. It is fair to say that at Kinloch, Nicklaus has created one of the world’s great modern designs to date.

Day 7 - Taupo - Christchurch

Catch the domestic flight from Rotorua to Christchurch

The Garden City, lies on the level plains that initially attracted the closely knit Church of England settlers that settled the area. The largest of the South Island cities, Christchurch retains something of the English nature of its origins - the willow and oak-lined River Avon and clustered mediaeval stone buildings.

Day 8 - Christchurch - Hokitika

Take the scenic drive from Christchurch, through Arthurs Pass and the Southern Alps to the West Coast town of Hokitika. Hokitika. In the 1860s it was a gold rush town, and the countryside around Hokitika is dotted with historic sites related to its mining past. Today Hokitika is known for its local arts and crafts especially jade carvings, glassware, jewellery, and fine wood pieces. Hokitika has plenty to offer in the way of outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, rafting, and river cruises. Lake Kaniere and Lake Mahinapura, and the Hokitika River are widely used for water based activities. There are also a variety of walking tracks for all levels of fitness in the surrounding area.

Day 10 - Hokitika - Franz Josef

Originally named Victoria, after Queen Victoria of England, geologist Julius Von Haast, renamed it, Franz Josef, after the current Emperor of his homeland, Austria. The Glacier is pale blue/green ice that has retreated and advanced many times over the years. A walk from the carpark to the Glacier terminal will give you some impressive views and an idea of the immense size of the Glacier itself.

Day 11 - Franz Josef - Queenstown

Queenstown is the South Island's most popular resort, set alongside the shores of Lake Wakatipu, under the gaze of the Remarkables Ranges. See the contrast of smooth glacier rounded hills, and jagged mountain summits that reach high above the ancient ice floor. The town is renowned for its jet boating, bungy-jumping, skiing and awe-inspiring scenery. Local story has it, that the gold prospectors of the 19th century pronounced the town as "fit for any Queen", and so she was called Queenstown.

Day 12 - Golf – Millbrook Resort Queenstown

Set in a dramatic natural amphitheatre of bare rock surrounded by the high snow-capped peaks of the Remarkables mountain range, a round of golf at Millbrook is both a test of golfing skills and an exploration of a unique natural environment. The new nine holes have been designed with a common distinctive feature - multiple options from tee to green. Designers Greg Turner and Scott Macpherson have laid out the challenge through their works. A golfer who plays shots successfully will be rewarded. With the recent addition of a further nine holes to the existing 18, golfers now have a choice of three different 18-hole courses.

Day 13 - Queenstown

Today is at your leisure in Queenstown - the place to complete your adventure 'to do' list: Skydiving, bungy jumping, jetboating, canyon swinging, whitewater rafting, parapenting, heli-skiing. Home to the world's first commercial jet boating, bungy jump and river surfing, there's something in the air. Queenstown's reputation as the world's favourite adrenaline destination is well deserved. The striking natural setting allows for a course created through minimal earth movement to harmonise with nature. Just 15 minute drive from downtown Queenstown, and located beneath the Remarkables mountain range on the edge of beautiful Lake Wakatipu, the course winds its way through a variety of schist outcrops, native wetland and bush areas along with local wildlife which make Jack’s Point their home.
