Day 3 - Full Day to Explore Osoyoos

Here in Osoyoos you’ll find yourself in the world famous “Pocket Desert" a semi-arid shrub-steppe area in the South Okanagan containing several species of plants not found elsewhere in Canada.

Spend the afternoon at the Nk’Mip Desert Centre. This state-of-the-art venue celebrates thousands of years of Okanagan First Nations' habitation. Right next door to the Desert Centre, you’ll find Nk’Mip Cellars. The winery site is one of the most attractive in the South Okanagan with outstanding views in a setting of natural beauty. Situated on a bench overlooking the shores of Osoyoos Lake, the vineyards and orchards provide a stunning contrast against the desert landscape.

Day 4 - Second Day to Explore Osoyoos

Day 5 - Osoyoos to Penticton (93.2km)

It's only a short drive today to your next destination so take advantage of the opportunities to visit some wineries enroute.  Consider stopping for lunch at the Toasted Oak Bar and Grill in Oliver. Known as the "Wine Capital of Canada", Oliver is a thriving agricultural community that's home to the popular Festival of the Grape and the Tomato Festival.

From Oliver, continue on to Okanagan Falls. The small set of falls that gave the town its name is now submerged beneath the lake but there are other waterfalls around the Okanagan Valley.  The provincial park here is managed by the Osoyoos Indian band and has a beautiful campground reservable between mid-May and early September should you wish to stop awhile.  If you prefer to continue on to Penticton, consider taking the route via East side Road which skirts Skaha Lake, passing more wineries.

On arrival in Penticton, stop by the Okanagan VQA Wine Store located at the Visitor Information Centre. It features a full selection of wines from one end of the valley to the other.

Day 6 - Full Day in Penticton

Today it's time to visit some of the wineries on the east side of Okanagan Lake.

After passing through the heart of Penticton, you’ll enter onto the Naramata Bench, home to more than 15 wineries with amazing vistas and vineyards along the way. Consider having lunch at the Barrel Room Bistro at Hillside  Winery (seasonal - check opening times). With its high ceilings and cool shaded patio, it’s the perfect place to escape the midday sun. This is a great opportunity to try a wine the Okanagan is known for - a Riesling or perhaps a Sauvignon Blanc.

Day 7 - Penticton to Kelowna (62.9km)

En route today to Kelowna, we suggest you stop at Sumac Ridge Estate Winery in Summerland for a tour and tastings. Known as one of the pioneer wineries of the BC wine industry, Sumac Ridge produces a variety of excellent wines including a sparkling Brut that few Okanagan winemakers produce.

Your next stop in Summerland is at Thornhaven Winery, situated in a quaint little valley overlooking Okanagan Lake. Located only two blocks away is Dirty Laundry Winery. These two wineries are quintessential Okanagan winery settings and shouldn’t be missed.   Aside from being a great climate to grow grapes, the Okanagan Valley is a large producer of other fruits for the Canadian and US markets. Apples, apricots, peaches, nectarines, pear and plum trees are prevalent in the landscape. 96% of BC's soft fruits are grown in the south-central Okanagan.

Day 8 - Full Day in Kelowna

Spend the day in Kelowna enjoying the sunshine and laid-back lifestyle enjoyed by the locals. Perhaps it's a day to swap winery tours for some outdoor activities. Rent a bike and cycle the Kettle Valley Trail or spend the day on the water in a speed boat, on a pontoon, canoeing, or stand-up paddleboarding.

Chill out for another today in and around Kelowna. If you're visiting in the Summer, you'll find a plethora of things to do and see. If you haven't yet had your fill of the excellent wineries in the area, there are more great places to visit in West Kelowna.

Framed by the Okanagan hills, the vineyards of West Kelowna offer more opportunities to taste and savour some great wines. Larger wineries such as Mission Hill offer a variety of tour options while smaller wineries like Little Straw have tastings only. Other wineries in West Kelowna include Meadow Vista, Rollingdale Winery, Kalala, Beaumont, Mt Boucherie and Quails’Gate.
