Bear & Whale Watch Safari Tofino
A multi-departure tour program that takes participants from the open Pacific coast to the secluded fjord inlets of Clayoquot Sound's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Whales, black bears, sea lions, sea otters highlight this marine program. During the winter, local Black bears are in semi-hibernation. Come April they leave their dens and head for the closest food source - the ocean! While bears forage in the intertidal zone, they can reliably and unobtrusively be observed and photographed from our 12-passenger Zodiac boats. This is an inlet, calm water experience. About the same time, Gray and Humpback whales return to our shores from their wintering areas in Mexico and Hawaii. Sea otters and sea lions are also found close to the outer islands and reefs frequented by the whales.
This wildlife program is presented in two parts, with a land-side break to refresh and get ready for the next voyage. Please note: on occasion, the second departure may be scheduled for the morning of the following day. To enhance the experience, we screen a short documentary introduction before each departure.
